Work Experience

As part of our careers education programme, all students in Years 10 and 12 are provided with the opportunity of a one or two week work experience placement. Students are encouraged to find their own placement to simulate the job application process.

Year 10 Work Experience will take place from Monday 15th July until Friday 19th July 2024
Year 12 Work Experience will take place from Monday 8th July until Friday 19th July 2024

Why do we do Work Experience?

Work Experience is more than just making tea whilst in a work place, it will help you stand out from the crowd on applications for courses, training and jobs. The placement is designed to allow you to test out ideas, develop your skills and give you some motivation for the future. More than that, work experience is also an opportunity to discover what you don’t want to do.

What is Work Experience?

As a basic definition, work experience is unpaid time spent in a business or workplace to learn about a job, company, or industry. Work experience is not meant to be easy, instead it is meant to provide you with a wealth of learning opportunities about careers, working and yourself.

Where can I go?

Work experience placements need to be challenging yet safe. Whilst all workplaces will be required to confirm they have appropriate Insurance, Health & Safety, Risk Assessment and Safeguarding policies in place, there are limits on some occupations for examples:

‘Workplaces at an increased level of risk’ – i.e. Building sites
Medicine – Patient Facing Roles
Safeguarding – ‘One person organisations’
Placements will be checked on a case by case basis

What is Unifrog?

We are using the Unifrog online platform to record and log all work experience documentation. All students should have already logged onto the system, and can use their Harris Falconwood email address, (e.g. J.Bloggs@harrisfalconwood.org.uk).
