Primary to Secondary Transition
Congratulations on gaining a place at Harris Academy Falconwood from September 2024. We are delighted to welcome you and your family to our school community and are very much looking forward to meeting our new cohort of students.
We recognise that beginning life at secondary school is a huge step. Our priority throughout the transition process is to ensure all students who will be joining us each September are fully prepared, to provide families with the information they need to support their children and to enable our new cohort of students to start a new and exciting journey at Harris Academy Falconwood, and understand what it means to embody our values: "Serve, Support, Success".
In service of this we have created this dedicated transition section of the website which will be updated regularly with letters, documents and information for you to view and download.
Should you have any questions about the transition process that are not covered within these pages please do not hesitate to contact the academy by emailing info@harrisfalconwood.org.uk, and our transition team will be happy to help you.
Lockers
At HAF we provide all of our students with a locker to use each year. These lockers may have a built in lock or require a padlock. The specific details will be provided to the student when the locker has been assigned each September.
Below you will find the conditions on which we provide lockers to our students:
-
Students must not share their locker, or access to it, with any other student.
-
Lockers remain academy property, but the student is responsible for anything stored in the locker, regardless of whether it is their property or belongs to another student.
-
Students must not store any illegal/prohibited/confiscatable items, materials or valuables in lockers.
-
Students must not damage any locker deliberately and if damages occur, parents may be charged a fee for cleaning and/or repairs.
-
Replacement keys will only be supplied at a cost of £5.00 to be paid via ParentPay.
-
At the end of Year 11 students will return their locker key prior to leaving.
-
The locker is the property of the Academy and, as such, delegated members of staff may access the locker at any time without consent. The Academy is not required to provide pre or post notification that this has occurred.
-
Students using lockers with padlocks must use the locker that is assigned to them. If a locker is found to be padlocked by anyone else, the padlock and the contents of the locker will be removed and disposed of.
My Child At School (MCAS) - Parent App
We use the MyChildAtSchool (MCAS) portal to give parents up-to-date information about their child's attendance, behaviour and timetable. We also use it to collect important information, choose Parents' Evening appointments and publish progress reports.
In order to assist with this, we ask all parents to activate their MyChildAtSchool (MCAS) account.
More information can be found on our dedicated MCAS page.
Uniform and Equipment
Students in years 7-11 are expected to be of smart appearance and to wear the Academy uniform on the way to and from the Academy as well as during the Academy day. An acceptance of a place at the Academy implies an acceptance our uniform and dress code. By requiring students to wear the Academy uniform, we hope to develop a sense of loyalty to the community of which they are members, and encourage them to take a pride in their appearance.
Full details about our Uniform and Equipment expectations can be found here.
