WHY CHOOSE BUSINESS STUDIES?
Choosing Business Studies is a valuable decision due to its practical focus on the business world. This subject imparts knowledge in areas like marketing, finance, and operations, directly applicable to daily life, fostering a deeper understanding of the world. Additionally, Business Studies equips students with transferable skills such as critical thinking and effective communication, vital in various life aspects and future careers. BTEC TECH AWARD IN ENTERPRISE
This vocational qualification is equivalent to 1 GCSE. It is two components of coursework and one exam. Students will learn about entrepreneurs, small business start-ups, finance and will create and pitch their own business plan as part of this course.
STUDIED IN YEAR 10
- Component One – Exploring enterprises
Students will explore different enterprises to develop their knowledge and understanding of the characteristics of enterprises and the skills needed by entrepreneurs to be successful. Students will explore how enterprises use market research to find out about their customer needs and competitor behaviour and how internal and external factors may affect enterprises.
- Component Two – Planning for and pitching an enterprise activity
STUDIED ACROSS THE TWO YEARS AND THE EXAM SAT IN YEAR 11
- Component Three – Promotion and finance for enterprise
Each coursework Component is worth 30% of the final grade.
The exam component is worth 40% of the final grade.
The grades awarded overall are, Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction

Theme 1 Investigating small business |
Summary: Theme 1 concentrates on the key business concepts, issues and skills involved in starting and running a small business. It provides a framework for students to explore core concepts through the lens of an entrepreneur setting up a business. Summary: Theme 2 examines how a business develops beyond the start-up phase.
