Year 7 Reading Heroes visit the Old Vic
As part of the on-going journey to create a culture of reading at HAF, we took a small group of year 7 students, identified as having the lowest reading skill in the year group, to the Children's Book Show at the Old Vic in London. They watched the amazing author, poet and speaker Kwame Alexander perform and discuss his book "The Crossover" and were exemplary in their behaviour and engagement.
In a climate of severe reading decline, this trip offered these young people an opportunity to see the enjoyment and fulfilment than can come through reading, as to quote Ercan: "I'm going to read this book tonight as soon as I get in!"
Massive thank you to Harry for his support in this trip, it was so good for the kids to see a male role model speak and show enthusiasm for reading, particularly for the very popular PE team!
